With its name of “Humanity in the Network” the Network of Network of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity (REDH) inaugurates its first digital review that will be issued monthly.
This first day, number 0 is aired and as of February 28 and the last day of the month you will find a new issue that, this year, corresponds to each of the subjects of the Net. This can be found in the Web site http://humanidadenred.org.ve/
“Commemorating its first 10 years of anti imperialist activity and accompanying the struggles for emancipation of the peoples of the World, this Network of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity intends to create an instrument of communication and diffusion to serve as a tool to break the constant harassment by the media and imperialist ideology and its local allies”. With this statement presented in the Digital Review it also intends to hold a decade of uninterrupted work of accompaniment, a defense of sovereignty and self determination of the peoples “and in this manner accompany the process of creation, promotion and diffusion of critical thought in its work with the praxis of creation of a civilizing alternative”.
In this context, 2014 for the Network in Defense of Humanity marks a high importance since it is 10 years since the First World Meeting of Intellectuals, and Artists held in Caracas in 2004, an idea of the Supreme Commander of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez. His proposal was that “the best defense is attack; that humanity has to take the offensive” and it still resounds in the memories of those who took part in that historical assembly in which he expressed his view, as a world leader, of the strategy that this new born organization must undertake.
In this issue 0 of “Humanity in the Red” in this month of February is the inauguration of the publication. For this purpose the Editorial was written by the intellectual and general coordinator of the REDH, Carmen Bohórquez. In this editorial “Ten years of the Network in Defense of Humanity, Dr. Bohórquez critically analyzes the importance of the ten years of work of our institution and the importance of the declared intention of defense of humanity.
Also, the reader will find five sections that describe the actions of REDH during these ten years while the present issue centers on the activities organized in 2013.
Entitled “General Events” the article presents a balance of the activities of large geographical reach done by the National Chapters of REDH during this year.
Another important section is “Voices in defense of humanity” that presents the most important documents of REDH, its National Chapters and organizations or personalities that form it.
Under the name of “Actions of the national chapters’ presented are summarized local activities done by the National Chapters in their struggles analyzed in 2013.
In the section “Speeches” we reproduce this time the inaugural delivery of the Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez in the First World Meeting of Intellectuals and Artists held in Caracas in 2004.
Lastly, section “Documents” presents the founding texts of high importance for REDH: The Declaration of the meeting “In Defense of Humanity” held in Mexico City in October 2003 and the Declaration of the meeting of writers from Cuba and Venezuela held in Caracas in January of 2004.
For the next issues the digital review “Humanity in the Network” will delve into subjects of the ten work direction of REDH that were established in the Caracas meeting in December of 2004.
Issue 1 will work on the first subject: “In Defense of a planet for all”. For this we will count on an editorial written by the Brazilian social activist, Marilia Guimaraes; an interview of the Belgian intellectual François Houtart and three articles by Miguel Urbano (Portugal), Mónica Bruckman (Peru) and Braulio Álvarez (Venezuela) each.
Our purpose is that this review could become a tool of communication between members of REDH, diffusion of their work and creation/promotion of critical thought.
For this reason we would like to receive your suggestions to improve the next issues.
