DECLARATION OF THE NETWORK IN DEFENSE OF HUMANITY EXPRESSES ITS SOLIDARITY WITH AYOTZINAPA

“They are not alone; the solidarity of the peoples accompanies them”

The network of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity manifests its full solidarity with the families, comrades of the student teachers of Ayotzinapa, and assumes the ten technical
and legal points by which the investigation of illegal executions of six persons, three students and the forced disappearance of 43 students of the Teacher’s School that should be kept open against the decision of the Mexican State to declare the case closed.

Demonstrating an alarming lack of sensibility, the government of Enrique Peña Nieto, through the Attorney General of the Republic, informed the mass media of the alleged advances on the investigations confronting the families and incurring in a re victimization of the students. Also, the absence of a commitment made by Peña Nieto to supply the lawyers of the families with copies of all events in their power and open the listed files.

Four months after the State crime and genocide there is no certainty of what occurred in Iguala; scientists of renown have expressed doubts regarding the hypothesis of the Mexican authorities. Results will not be accepted until these are ratified by highly qualified independent experts. In this sense, we reiterated our confidence in the Argentine Team of Forensic Anthropology and demand that all official obstacles be removed for them to perform their work in optimum conditions.

We observed that the Attorney General depends too much on declarations made before the public ministry by persons who easily could be coerced since it is well known that torture is common in Mexico. Those
responsible of important actions in the crime have not been arrested while the Attorney General has not been able to follow through. Also, we don’t know if there is the will since not one single action has
been taken to court accusing of forced disappearance of persons. This is the legal figure to tie in the events since it is a crime of the State.

We refuse to consider the investigation closed since responsibility of the Army has not been investigated despite the fact that in the file there are indications of their complicity with organized crime. The Army knew since 2013 that Guerreros Unidos controlled the Police of Iguala and Cocula. The Armed Forces did not investigate these delinquents but offered them protection. The investigation cannot be closed because not one single revelation has been made of the responsibility on the environment of political corruption that led to
the events of September 26. Still pending is an investigation of the mayors, such as the one of Cocula, as well as other authorities of the government of the State of Guerrero and the Mexican Federal government.

The Network in Defense of Humanity supports the decision of the families of the disappeared of appearing before international institutions such as the Committee of Forced Disappearances of the United Nations with headquarters in Geneva to denounce the events in Mexico. Also the Inter American Commission of Human Rights has designated a group of experts that soon should begin the technical verification made by Mexico; this revision is indispensible since we know that they will find many irregularities.
The Network in Defense of Humanity wants the families, comrades of the student teachers and all the people of Mexico to know that they are not alone and we take up the banner to fight for truth and justice.
Solidarity is the tenderness of the peoples; they accompany them.
