Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment concludes his working visit to the United States


During his exchange with the American counterparts, the Minister reiterated the necessity to lift the blockade.

Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, concluded this Thursday 18, a four-day working visit to the United States, invited by the American authorities.
 
While in this country, Minister Malmierca met US Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker; of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack; of State, John Kerry; US Trade Representative, Michael Froman; as well as other US Government officials, and Governor of the State of Virginia, Terry McAuliffe.

Malmierca also attended the opening session of the second dialogue between Cuban and American officials to exchange on the scope of existing regulations of the blockade against Cuba, and recent changes adopted to modify some aspects of its implementation.

The Cuban minister also met Tom Donohue, President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, as well as members of the U.S.-Cuba Business Council and American entrepreneurs interested in Cuban economic opportunities. Likewise, Malmierca took the floor at the opening of the Annual Conference of the Cuba Consortium, a group following up the bilateral relations normalization process. The Minister attended a working session with Engage Cuba Coalition, an organization committed to the lifting of the blockade.

During his exchanges with U.S. authorities and different members of the American society, Minister Malmierca emphasized that, lifting the blockade, which is the main obstacle to Cuba economic development and affects American and Cuban peoples’ interests, is essential to normalize bilateral relations. He also stressed the need to broaden the scope of those measures approved so far by the U.S. Government to modify some aspects of the blockade.

Furthermore, the Cuban official reinforced the Government of Cuba willingness to maintain its contribution to the bilateral relations normalization process, based on mutual respect and equality. (Cubaminrex)
