Bolivia Proposes to Confront Capitalism with Indigenous Politicies

During the preparatory meeting for the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples, the Bolivian President Evo Morales has proposed to fight capitalism and imperialism with politics, experiences and traditional values of indigenous communities.

"The best way to fight capitalism and imperialism is implementing the policies and experiences of the original indigenous peoples, such as living in community, in fellowship, in solidarity, in peace. That's the experience, plus harmony with Mother Earth," he said.

Morales said it is important to combat capitalism and imperialism because they cause enough damage invading other nations in order to seize their natural resources.

The president said that the ideological principles should not be negotiated or made in discussion, especially regions that were inherited from the ancestors.

"At some point they considered the extermination of indigenous peoples, thanks to our ancestors, our grandparents, we have defended ourselves, we have been defended and we continue with our traditional clothes," he said.

Morales also said that for reasons of survival, the indigenous peoples are anti-neocolonists and anti-neoliberal and therefore anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist.

The indigenous leader added that the defense of natural resources should not be negotiated with anyone, since people must be and should remain under the administration of the States and not the private sector.
The first World Conference on Indigenous Peoples brings together delegates from seven regions of the world with native populations, Latin America, North America, Asia, Pacific, Africa, the Arctic and Russia, who are preparing for the international event organized under the slogan "Back to Be Ourselves to Rediscover Our Way."

The meeting will be held on September 22 and 23 this year, at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
