The media pressure exerted by the opposition sectors in Brazil aim to reduce gradually the popularity of the former president Luis Inacio “Lula” Da Silva who intends to run for president in the elections of 2018.
The Brazilian right wing has launched a campaign of disrepute against everything that surrounds Lula, targeting the political organization of the governing Party of the Workers (PT) and the current head of state, Dilma Rousseff with constant attacks that have been echoed by the private media of that country.
During the program of Open File in TeleSur, the journalist and director of “Opera Mundi”, Berno Altman assured that this pressure is exerted by the high class stratum intending to mobilize the most the democratic process of the South American nation.Facts:
Lula ended his term as president of Brazil with a popularity of 80%, due to his ambitious social programs that eliminated poverty in about 40 million persons.
Altman pointed out that this mobilization aims to “weaken the left anddeprive it of popular support in the elections to take place in three years; a fact that already served Lula when he led Brazil from 2003
and 2011.
The purpose is to remove merit form the economic and social policies not only in Brazil but the rest of the progressive governments as has been the case of Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia and Argentina. “This is an offensive of the right wing forces in all of Latin America”, the journalist commented.
In spite of the opening of a dialogue between the government of Rousseff with different political and social sectors in Brazil to find solutions to the economic crisis, the right radicalizes the country
taking to the streets to demand “the repeal of the President that has been qualified as an unconstitutional act and even an attempted coup by different social movements who have agreed to present their demands to the national president.
The context
The Party of the Workers (PT) has been blamed for cases of corruption by the opposition in Brazil.
These alleged acts have been directed against both Lula and Rousseff; the latter without proof by the adversaries of the past elections in which Aecio Neves requested a trial against the Brazilian president in spite of having admitted that there was no proof against her”.
Recently Lula was accused by the O Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper of being a part of corruption with the National Bank of Economic and Social Development (Bandes) to favor credits to the builder Odebrecht in Brazil.
The former president described the accusation as a “fabrication” of information that only intends to disrupt the relations Brazil has with the countries of the region.
