Despite opinions of grave diggers or know it alls who think they have invented all or those “who already know the history” that comes and goes, there is an emergence of a whole lot of radio productions that mark milestones and courses of a work that is not easy; of producing a new sense with sound materials, human or not, known or yet to be known. Let us listen.
Despite opinions of grave diggers or know it alls who think they have invented all or those “who already know the history” that comes and goes, there is an emergence of a whole lot of radio productions that mark milestones and courses of a work that is not easy; of producing a new sense with sound materials, human or not, known or yet to be known. Let us listen.
Just in the field of modulation with human voices, knowing how to manage emphasis, turns, accents, textures … in intensities linked to intentions, concepts, affirmations or intellectual expectations; either in soliloquies, in dialogues or vocal harmonies … only the widest specter of combinations of the human voice to achieve concerts of the word, rich in ideas and specific sonority is yet to achieve the best to defeat predominant verbal diarrhea plagued by sound miseries and the most absolute carelessness in taking advantage of the acoustic wealth of the human voice and of millions of sounds.
The art of breathing and understanding ideas worked for a mutual beneficial sound. The art of locution and acoustic depths to communicate the simplest idea. We are far from this when we listen to the miserable radio imposed on us. Of course there are programs and, of course, there are transforming talents. What is needed is to take them seriously. They are the exceptions.
There is a phase of saturation and expiration of all formulas, hackneyed and repeatedly hackneyed, in the production of radio that we are most aware of. It is the fault of material interests, of its
Babylonian and scandalous esthetics; the lack of systematic respect for the audience; of their poverty and miserable objectives; the fault of ignorance and fault of false knowledge of a mediocre common sense that converts mediocrity to a scandal in Hertzian waves. We no longer want a talkative and over evaluated narrator, willing to do all the material pirouettes that he thinks of or his producers or sponsors… we no longer want the vulgarity of superficial sarcastic traffic as if it is funny; we no longer want the doses of morbid or gossipy fascination, of incidental music; we do not want an agenda of the most dissipated news on the radio table nor next to the microphones; no more showings
and repeated showings of advertisements (when they achieve it) nor the unbearable string of shouts and making a shameless fuss blurted and with impunity as spices; repeated ad nauseam throughout the length and breadth of the radio quadrants of the entire world. Enough!
It is the kingdom of radio facility with very few exceptions because there are few brave souls willing to do semiotic research and experimentation in issues of radio production. And to top it all off, a large majority of universities with related career limit themselves to fabricate servile stereotypes of the bourgeois model of making radio and launching to the air armies of “professionals” wheedled to
the service of the merchandise and its objective and subjective versions. A generous waste of nothingness with university titles. Is this very cruel?...It is more cruel to listen to them and hear the triumphant wordiness of the bourgeois moral. The most fortunate get paid for this.
A dark and malignant aside is in those who entrenched in the radio use it as a weapon of ideological war cloaked as “news”. There are all kinds. Late night revelers and of half days. They play at everything imaginable, with their measly minds and their interests in markets.
They talk as if they know what they are talking about; they give opinions of cheap ideology camouflaged or small voices while the beast of his businesses invades the ear of a public victim that he has captured. These mercenaries of the news chatting and juggling to make us believe that “they have the truth”; that they know everything and explain everything with cheap arguments funded by their bosses and their ideology of serfs and hangmen.
Almost all the rest are gossip and jokes of the show business world and their radio sponsors with their vulgarities, sick and customary and progressive mediocrity; music and mediocre singers, salads of
mediocrity by the hundreds. Only a few radio stations in some universities and some public communication projects, in some alternative radio and community stations, in some closed circuit
exercises direct their production under the slogan of side stepping the merchant bundle and model of miserable productions to offer (and offer themselves) remains of intelligence and rich sensitivity able to exert a cognitive power of poetry (in its broadest sense) supported by the economic political wealth of sound: its easier said than done.
Still to be developed by new semantics and syntaxes for a radio is based on exploring the centers of dramatic tension that feeds human history and all history. The emancipation of the story now has claws of the ideology of the dominant class. To be developed is a deep, intelligible, committed semiotics with human dilemmas much larger that is daily events and is ours… those of everyday life. Sill to be known and make known is the specter of colors in the words with their orchestral developments more seductive to explain what is necessary between richer vocabularies at the service of understanding and emotion laid down to mobilize us critically. Still to be developed is the narrative strategy of a revolutionary radio production in which the mandates of unity of the peoples are strengthened in the particularity of their protagonists and let us hear their pulse and breath in the midst of the emancipating struggles. Of all struggles.
Still to be born is the new and better emancipating radio experience that would be real and free of the deranged yoke of capitalism gagging humanity. That is the dilemma. But what is necessary is a specialization of the protagonists in this battle of radio ideas.
Urgent is the scientific training, esthetic, political and poetic to transform radio and the world. Take the sound heaven by assault. Is it heard?
