Red Zone, a Cuban experience with ebola

In the House of ALBA, cultural sub center of the 25th International Fair of Books of Havana, Enrique Ubieta presented his book

Heads of medical brigades in West African countries, Cuban ambassadors of those nations, doctors and nurses and other members of these group that develop a human feat participated in the presentation in which Abel Prieto referred to this text that collects testimonies and aspects of great interest. who developed a very human feat participated in the presentation in which Abel Prieto referred to this text that collects testimonies and aspects of great interest.

Testimonials from men who by their feat reached the right to be considered heroes are reflected in this text, embodied with a fluid language, appealing to the heart; how they touch death with their hands while they joke to raise their spirits, the sick and colleagues of other nationalities.

About 16 years ago Ubieta, travel with his backpack a large part of Central America to report the work of the Cuba Medical Brigades that attended victims of hurricane Mitch that had devastated the region.
That first approach to the humanitarian work was done with practically no logistic support, with the minimum of conditions, living in camps of the brigades and learning of the work done by the doctors and the sharing of their hardships and daily endeavors.

It was a kind of internationalist self, nothing formal, without expecting the maximum conditions. And I'm sure that the delivery  it is owe to his revolutionary devotion that led him to recall, very to himself, the Che steps, an experience that  lead him to write his first testimonial book, his first "faith of life "of his internationalist gait.

When Enrique talks of his first experience he does it so simply, without any protagonist pretention and false poses of a star journalist. For this reason he did little to obtain the proper public recognitions for his work.

To discover the occult intentions of Ubieta writing about these internationalist Cuban doctors in which he has devoted three books, in this last one he reports of his travels in countries infested with the ebola epidemic. He must be understood very well to reach the secret keys of his endeavor to his duty as a truly committed intellectual, faithful to the Revolution in times that it may not be very fashionable for some to assume this type of life aside from aseptic academic analyses.

I have rarely seen Abel Prieto, perhaps the most requested presenter of books in the county deliver such emotional words, so lacking in the hackneyed phrases of commitment or justice required by circumstances
and affections.

This time it was different and Abel with his customary humor repeated passages of the interviews contained in the book that become real and nearby the epic heroes of these feats taken from his large notes that are proof of a careful reading, perhaps a future introduction to new editions of the “Red Zone”.

He offered those present an advance of this extraordinary and necessary text to understand the values that are at the core of ideas and practices of the Cuban Revolution that is permanent in todays men and women in spite of today’s difficult circumstances and that Ubieta was able to capture in his “faith in life” the delivery of “Red Zone” a Cuban experience of ebola”.
