Ignacion Ramonet presents in Havana “Hugo Chávez. My first life¨
The idea for this book arose precisely after One Hundred Hours with
Fidel, a book that the Bolivarian commandant arduously filled with
notes and that he read like a manual

As this story unfolds, in one of the conversations Ignacio Ramonet had
with Hugo Chávez he asked how long was a speech delivered by a French
president, Ramonet explained that during election campaigns they could
last up to one hour. “I need at least four hours simply to start,”
explained the Venezuelan president.
From his taste for a monologue there were many hours of conversation
after which Ramonet wrote Hugo Chávez. My first life.
We spoke both of the book that one day I told him why not write about
him; he didn’t like that idea very much since he still had a life
ahead of him and it was reserved only for famous personalities such
as Fidel”, Ramonet recalled.
The 700 page text that was presented Wednesday evening in Havana
narrates the formation of Chávez from his birth until he wins the
presidential elections of his country in 1998.
Three years and close to two hundred hours of conversation,
constitutes this book that presents “an extremely human” Chávez, the
same one who governed for 14 years changing the road of history of
Latin America.
This political scientist also recognized that he felt the enormous
love Chávez had for the Venezuelan plains and the men and women who
inhabit it. It is a special place that occupies the state of Barinas
and the city of Sabaneta where he was born and recovers the memories
of his childhood.
Referring to the book, Abel Prieto, special advisor to the Cuban
president assured that one of the wise moves achieved by Ramonet after
explaining the particularity of the oral discourse achieved by Ramonet
was printing the different poems and songs sung by the eternal
president of Venezuela.
During the evening, conducted by journalist Arleen Rodríguez Derivet,
Ecuadorian singer Marisol Bauer and Cuban singer songwriter Raúl
Torres sang many songs in homage of the historical leader of the
Bolivarian revolution.
The book will have one publishing in Cuba and will be presented this
coming July 28 on the 60th anniversary of the birth of Chávez.
Present were UNEAC president, Miguel Barnet; Edgardo González, head of
the diplomatic mission of Venezuela in the Island; Fernando González,
Hero of the Republic of Cuba; families of the Five heroes as well as
representatives of the diplomatic corps in this country, artists and
other personalities.
